Diesel fuel economy improvements are easy to track and calculate but they are just a portion of the savings that are achieved with good diesel fuel additives. Some diesel engine maintenance cost reductions from improved starting in cold weather that extends battery and starter life are difficult to measure. Other saving are achieved over a much longer period of time like improved cleaning and better lubricating of diesel fuel injectors and the diesel fuel pump resulting in less diesel engine fuel system component wear and replacement.

Cetane improvers aid in diesel engine start ability especially on cold mornings by reducing the ignition delay time in the diesel engine combustion chamber. Cetane additive improves the combustibility of low and mid range diesel fuels by increasing complete combustion thus reducing smoke emissions and the odor from unburned hydrocarbons.
Light duty rotary diesel fuel injection pumps rely on the diesel fuel for proper lubrication. Lubricity is a measure of the diesel fuels ability to reduce friction in moving parts in diesel fuel pumps and diesel fuel injectors. Today’s Ultra Low Sulfur diesel fuels reduce the natural lubrication value in the diesel fuel. Chemical lubricity agents increase the diesel fuel's ability to reduce friction in moving parts in diesel fuel pumps and diesel fuel injectors to prevent excessive wear.
Diesel fuel detergent additives are used as cleaners to minimize the buildup of unburned diesel fuel related deposits and remove existing carbon and gummy deposits from diesel fuel injection delivery systems and keep them clean to insure a complete and balanced diesel fuel injection spray pattern in each cylinder. This action helps to insure that all of the diesel fuel is converted into usable horsepower.
Distillate (diesel) fuels are organic in nature and from the time of manufacture (refining) until they are used diesel fuels will degrade. Diesel fuel stabilizer anti-oxidant additives retard the natural hydrocarbon degradation of diesel fuels and distillate fuel oils during long-term storage.
A complete diesel fuel additive package also includes specifically selected sludge retardants, rust-corrosion inhibitors and metal deactivators. These ancillary diesel fuel additive components enhance the major Diesel Fuel Performance Additives and add to the overall benefits for the diesel fuel user.
WINTERIZATION COMPONENTS of DIESEL FUEL ADDITIVES
Pour Point Depressants
Diesel fuel pour point depressants reduce the temperature when diesel fuel jells (becomes solid). They modify the wax crystals’ shape and size and minimize agglomeration of the crystals when formed and assist other flow modifiers to perform as they are designed.
These diesel fuel additives improve cold diesel fuel flow filterability (CFPP - Cold Filter Plugging Point) to avoid diesel fuel filter plugging and help lower the diesel fuel pour point temperature. Other distillate fuel flow improvers like anti wax settling additives suspend the paraffin wax crystals in diesel fuel and prevent paraffin wax sedimentation in storage tanks that will clog diesel fuel delivery systems.
Wax Dispersing Additives
Wax Dispersing Additives (“WDATM”), are an exclusive additive from Amalgamated, Inc. WDATM, along with other cold flow improvers, reduces the paraffin wax crystal size as well as the shape of the wax crystals. It does this at fuel temperatures below the fuel Cloud Point allowing these smaller wax crystals to disperse throughout the fuel matrix. This permits the solidified paraffin content (wax) to go through fuel filters and minimize or eliminate any engine operability problems with fuel filter plugging below the Cloud Point temperature. Using WDATM in distillate fuels (including Bio-Diesel blends and fuel oils) also helps to lower the CFPP (Cold Filter Plugging Point) temperature and can provide dramatically improved cold weather operability of the fuels in ambient temperatures as low as 25 to 30 degrees below the fuel Cloud Point temperature.

Cloud Point Reducers
Diesel fuel cloud point depressants lower the temperature at which the diesel fuel paraffin content begins to change from a liquid to a solid - haze or cloud.
De-Emulsifiers & De-Icers
These diesel fuel additive agents break up distillate fuel water mixtures and chemically combine with the diesel fuel moisture content to prevent freezing during cold temperatures. Glycol ether type chemical additives are the most effective de-icers that work by combining with water droplets and minimizing water accumulations.
Bus Fleet Additive Test
